First, there was Democrats for Change. Then, there was Opportunity for All. Now comes 'opportunity for change'. In a paid political ad, "Independents and Democrats for Pfaltz" proclaim they "are middle-of-the-road, moderate voters. We usually vote Democratic, but we are not knee-jerk party liners. When a strong candidate appears on the ballot, we give that candidate careful consideration, regardless of party affiliation." "Consequently, we are endorsing JOHN PFALTZ, Republican candidate, for City Council..." After giving some indication of John Pfaltz committments (i.e. reduction of traffic through our residential neighborhoods, wiring our city with fiber optic cable, susbstantial tax reduction for owner occupied housing assessed below $120,000, a rational approach to parking problem near the Downtown Mall, active support for city parks and the lively arts in our city, strengthen the public school system), they say "Charlottesville needs a city council with representation from more than just one party. We seek an advocate for our environment, for our neighborhoods, and for new programs that are sound and fiscally responsible." "The opportunity for change and for real diversity offered by John Pfaltz appeals to us ..." Signed: Amy Barbee, Susan Bates, Richard
