Dear George,

Although I rarely write political letters because my professional status requires a certain amount of anonimity, I would like to state my reasons for supporting John Pfaltz.

I have never once in my 30 years of living in Charlottesville voted for a Republican, but this year I am supporting John, Maurice Cox and Kevin Lynch. Aha, you all say...she is anti the MCP. Correct! But that is not the only reason I will choose this mixed ticket. All of these candidates have shown that they are thoughtful about environmental issues and are interested in getting out of the box when it comes to solving problems involving transportation, population and livability in Charlottesville.

I have known John Pfaltz for 30 years. He is intelligent, thoughtful, compassionate and enthusiastic. He will work for our city, because he cares about the many issues we have now and will face in the future. He is level headed and able to listen without hasty judgement and he best represents the possibility of bipartisan politics that we all tout as we do motherhood and apple pie, but rarely give more than a nod. If John is elected, we will see that it can really work to our benefit.

Nevertheless, I am not voting for him because he is a Republican, but because he is John Pfaltz. We are lucky indeed to have such good choices this year. It is also great fun to have an election that has concentrated on issues and has stimulated such good discussion. I think that we have John Pfaltz and the Democrats for Change to thank for that.

Susan Bates (electronic mail, April 26, 2000).

PS. Thanks George, for a truly interesting website.
