Kehinde Wiley equestrian sculpture

Bronze equestrian statue by Kehinde Wiley, on view in New York's Times Square. Its permanent home will be in Richmond, in front of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Noted artist Kehinde Wiley, a New Yorker, was in Richmond a few years ago to participate in the opening of a show of his work at the Museum of Fine Art. While strolling the neighborhood, he was struck by the magnificent equestrian statue of General J.E.B. Stuart. And he was moved to intense loathing of the Lost Cause ideology it represents. He has created a magnificent equestrian statue to counter those on Monument Avenue, and it will have a permanent home near the Richmond museum. But to honor his roots, it will be on display in New York's Times Square for a few months first.

Here's a detail view of the head of the figure.
