The Community Chalkboard and Podium, Charlottesville’s Monument to the First Amendment, turned one year old on Friday, April 20. To celebrate, one entire side of the chalkboard (54 feet) was devoted exclusively to four different works of chalk art, created throughout the day by local artists. In addition, a local group of Virginia Tech alumni used the monument during Fridays After Five to invite visitors to write messages to the Virginia Tech community on a banner which they will send to Blacksburg this week.
