Negar Mahmoodzadegan Bridges the Iranian-American Divide

George,

I am an Iranian-American woman living in the Americas, far away from my parents' homeland in a physical sense but not in a psychological one. Long ago, I used to cringe at my Iranianness but now I embrace it. I used to be arrogant about my Americanness but now I am humbled by it.

As illustrated in this picture, I like to think of myself as as the bridge between the two opposing cultural forces of my identity. I have the freedom to pick and choose which parts of each culture I wish to integrate into my life and which parts I can disagree or challenge.

Note: Taking care of our flag is like taking care of our country. What is important to you? Is there a statement you would like to make? A cause you would like to advocate for?
