Friday, July 4: JULY 4TH, USE THE BLACK SPOT TO "UNBRAND" AMERICA

In the coming months a black spot will pop up everywhere ... on store windows and newspaper boxes, on gas pumps and supermarket shelves. Open a magazine or newspaper - it's there. It's on TV. It stains the logos and smears the nerve centers of the world's biggest corporations.

This is the mark of the people who don't approve of Bush's plan to control the world, who don't want countries "liberated" without UN backing, who can't stand anymore neo-con bravado shoved down their throats.

This is the mark of the people who want the Kyoto Protocol for the environment, who want the International Criminal Court for greater justice, who want a world where all nations, including the U.S.A., are free of weapons of mass destruction, and who pledge to take their country back.

Adbusters is launching the unbranding campaign July 4th.

Thursday, July 17- Friday, July 18: Sixth Annual Virginia Governors Project
L. Douglas Wilder
Governor of Virginia 1990-1994

In 1998 the University of Virginia Center for Politics initiated the Virginia Governors Project. The primary purpose of this project is to record for posterity the history of Virginia governors in order to apply the hard-learned lessons of the past to the challenges faced by today's Commonwealth. The project has proven successful because the topic of Virginia governors is of perennial interest and genuine importance, and the Center has shown itself to be particularly well-qualified to organize events of this type.

Starting with an examination of the two terms of Gov. Mills E. Godwin, Jr., the Virginia Governors Project has proceeded chronologically through the administrations of A. Linwood Holton, John N. Dalton, Charles S. Robb, and Gerald L. Baliles.

This year our focus will be L. Douglas Wilder, the 66th governor of Virginia and the first and only African American elected governor in the United States.

The University of Virginia Center for Politics is pleased to partner with the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, the Community Idea Stations (WCVE Richmond PBS and WHTJ Charlottesville PBS) and numerous corporations, foundations, and individual donors.
