Film Director Nicole Kassell, 17th Annual Virginia Film
Festival Opening Gala, University of Virginia Art Museum, October 28,
2004
(2004) Featured at the Sundance Film Festival, The
Woodsman is a poignant and controversial exploration into one mans
struggle to escape his past and forge a new future. Kevin Bacon brings a
quiet, understated intensity to the titular pedophile who, after twelve
years in prison, returns to his hometown and attempts to balance a new life
with old demons. Bacons magnificent performance, widely touted for
an Oscar nomination, is ably supported by Kyra Sedgwick, Eve, and Mos Def.
Native Charlottesville writer/director Nicole Kassells first feature
was a sensation at Sundance, and was acquired by Newmarket Films for release
this December. It was shown at the Virginia Film Festival in Charlottesville
on October 28, 2004
Nichole Kassell also directed The
Green Hour in 2002 and has announced the production of The Ride Down to Mt. Morgan
(2005).
