Some of you may recall last July when federal animal control workers in New Jersey "herded about 1,000 geese from parks and public areas into fenced pens and shoved them into the backs of specially equipped pickup trucks, where they were asphyxiated with carbon dioxide gas."

A click on Goose Control offers nest depredation, physical barriers, hazing methods, round-ups and removal, citing its most recent successful lethal control roundups:

* July 13, 2003 - The Lakes at Setauket: 87 geese (latest during molt season for a round-up, with still a 100% capture rate)
* June 22, 2003 - Great Neck Public Schools: 151 geese
* June 26, 2002 - Belmont Lakes State Parks: 521 geese (largest single capture round-up in southern New York state)

In Virginia, GeesePeace is "dedicated to building better communities though innovative, effective, and humane solutions to wildlife conflicts."

Wildlife Services-Virginia "offers information, advice, equipment, and materials that enable many people to resolve widlife conflicts on their own. Often, this technical assistance can be provided over the phone. WS also provides on-site expertise, or direct assistance to manage complex wildlife problems that cannot be safely resolved by others.
