George, Thankfully you have readers like Jim Shea. So far he seems to be the only person to respond with the same beliefs that I have (although I would have added 'repugnant' to that) for Americans who will not stand up for our leaders and soldiers who provide the rest of us with national security, peace and most importantly, freedom. Apparently I conveyed my feelings through my message, and the truth is indeed, vile. Our nation has been attacked and possibly as many as 6,965 people (that's innocent civilians, for you peace nuts) were killed by Religious Fanatics. Previous U.S. Death Tolls: This is not Vietnam - our freedom was not attacked then. The only relation my article had to Vietnam was that those who want peace through peaceful means today are the offspring and apostles of the acid-soaked, anti-war peace hippies of the past. It figures Jim would respond with a distortion as though I stated that EVERY peace activist during the Vietnam War was a drugged-up traitor. Re-read the article, Jim (take your antidote first.). Don't distort next time - state the facts. Jim also correctly interpreted that my feelings reflect: "America - Love it or Leave it". My feelings EXACTLY! If you hate America so much - get the hell out! This is specifically directed at groups like: * The ACLU when they threaten legal action against school principals (Sacramento, CA) for putting a sign up at school that says "God Bless America". Don't get me wrong here - I believe in the principle intent of the ACLU - most of the time their brain goes on vacation, though. * Religious Fanatics intent on killing and/or repressing others in our country (Branch Davidians, KKK, and the like). * Malik Shabazz of the New Black Panthers - who wants all Jews, Asians and Whites out of Harlem and his life - who wants reparations and to never pay taxes again because his ancestors were slaves (Hey Malik, in 1860: 10,000 Free Negroes owned 60,000 Negro slaves in America (U.S. Census: 1860 Slave Schedule), slavery is not exclusive to Negros in America!). Malik Shabazz' phone number is 202-234-1349 if you want to spout off about his racist attitude. * Library Directors (Fl. Gulf Costs Univ.) that won't allow librarians to wear Pro-American slogans like the Red, White & Blue sticker: "I'm Proud to be an American" so that they won't offend foreign students! * Radical Armed Militias of (mostly white) racist men and women who stockpile weapons and attempt to fight the people and government of the United States. So I am a chauvinist, so what? Maybe Jim can look up 'chauvinism' in his library. For those who want to know right away: chau·vin·ism: -Militant devotion to and glorification of one's country; fanatical patriotism. (American Heritage Dictionary) -Exaggerated or aggressive patriotism. (Oxford English Dictionary) Jim (who is not reading this nor any of my future writings) needs to understand that we are already on the brink of true catastrophe. I wonder if he has ever noticed that it is only dictatorships and monarchies that 'attack' America. You don't see democracies attacking us. He should appreciate the fact that he lives in a democratic republic that allows him to respond publicly to articles like mine. Jim should help fight to protect that freedom. The Taliban has taken this freedom away from Afghan men, women and children. Prior to the Taliban taking control of Kabul in 1996 and 65-80% of Afghanistan, Afghan Men and women were starting to wear western clothes and they held normal jobs like lawyers, doctors and librarians and lived normal Islamic lives. Now Afghan women are being further repressed to the point that one Afghan woman would question 'Why live?' This very same Taliban Regime that shrouds Usama Bin Laden, known terrorist, suspected of the recent attacks in America hates what America stands for and has attacked us. The Taliban is not the image the Islamic world wants to project. Is the current Afghan way of life what you want Jim? (Someone ask him that, since he is not reading this.) The liberal left and the media have made me what I am - a realist, an aggressive defender of the facts, and history as it happened - not history as some want to rewrite it. If anyone talks to Jim, ask him to clarify where I stated something that resembles his provocation that: "Actual historical fact has no place in his vision of the past or present" My article contained facts. Jim states the above-comment, yet fails to describe where I altered fact or history. You had better have back up next time. "A newspaper is not just for reporting news; it's to get people mad enough to do something about it." -- Mark Twain Omnisciently Aware, Will Lyster (electronic mail, November 3, 2001).
