Mr. Andrews is a seminar leader for the National Fatherhood Initiative, the largest and most influential organization in the fatherhood field. Dr. Lawrence Rogers Burwell, cardiologist and professor of medicine at the University of Virginia will deliver the keynote address on 'Cardiovascular Disease in the Minority Population.' Part of the proceeds this year go to benefit the WomenBuild project of Habitat forHumanity. Tickets are available at the door. $7 suggested for adults, sliding scale $5.00-$20, or more as donation welcomed. The choir sings largely a capella music, some simply lovely, some a lot of fun, and some topical. Reception follows in the Community Hall of the church. O'Neil, Director of the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression, will be speaking to Piedmont Mainstream Citizens at Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church at 7:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public. Tuesday, May 8: There will be a ceremony at the Drewary Brown Bridge at 11 a.m. in Charlottesville, Virginia to honor the first "Community Bridge Builders" who have worked to better our community and to bridge differences between groups of people. Tuesday, May 15: Bob Gibson hosts a one-a-month Evening Edition show from 7:30-8:30 p.m. on WVTF-FM in Roanoke. His first "Evening Edition" show as a political call-in will feature the three Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor in the June 12 primary: Tim Kaine, Alan Diamonstein and Jerrauld Jones. Tuesday, May 15: The League of Women Voters of Charlottesville/Albemarle County will host its annual meeting on at 5:00 p.m. at the Terrace Room of the Charlottesville Ice Park on the Downtown Mall. Guest speakers will be Delegate Paul Harris and Delegate Mitch Van Yahres who will answer questions about the recent general assembly, and Monticello High School student Burke Doherty, who recently attended the Presidential Classroom program in Washington, D.C. with the sponsorship of the League. Wednesday, May 23: The Coalition for a Responsible School Board will hold a CANDIDATE'S INFORMATION MEETING at 7 pm in the Albemarle High School library. The meeting will explore the legal requirements of candidacy, the responsibilities and work load of school board members, and the role of the Coalition in the election process. The meeting will feature the County Registrar who will discuss the legal requirements of candidacy. Also, sitting board members Chuck Ward and Steve Koleszar and former School Board Chair John Baker will discuss public campaigning and the demands of the job. Coalition Chair Allen Freeman will explain what the Coalition can and can not do for candidates. This is not a media event (although open to the press), but an event where possible candidates (who don't have to identify themselves) and other interested individuals may come and learn about the demands of the job.
