George,

Regarding the BikeWalk Virginia visit:

I hope they don't plan to bike on Park Street - there are no bike lanes and traffic has been calmed so much that there is no room for any! I heard the route referred to as 'The Park St. Slalom' last weekend (by former residents who had visited).

It strikes me that the best transportation mode for that stretch would be skis, especially heading out of town, (alas, no snow) or a skate-board.

BikeWalk Virginia will hold its 3 day conference in Charlottesville, Virginia, April 1 - 3, 2001 at the Doubletree Hotel, with a Mobile Workshop for cyclists and pedestrians on the Monday afternoon of the conference.

Diane Taylor will be presenting information regarding the Charlottesville Transit System & its Bus / Bike projects as one of Virginia's best practices ( including the video we produced Buses & Bikes: Sharing the Road ).

For the complete agenda & details, please contact the Executive Director: Allen Turnbull, aturnbull@bikewalkvirginia.org

I loved the virtual tour of the houses, but was reminded of the first car accident I was involved in.

I was looking at an interesting house while driving (slowly) in a line of traffic, and I rear-ended the car in front of me, creating a chain reaction! I was not charged (this was in Arkansas) since the car behind hit me, and we couldn't tell who did what first.

So be alert and careful on Park Street, but I don't think I'd try a bicycle."

Editor's Note: Perhaps this is where the Bus / Bike program comes in. I wonder if it goes down Park Street.
