George,

I almost hesitate to answer you about the wedding sponsors, having helped pay for our daughter's wedding last May, but instead of looking for business sponsors for an expensive commercial wedding, I'm wondering why we don't question why weddings need to be so big and expensive and commercial.

There are many ways to simplify and still have a meaningful ceremony and nice party. There are books and articles on the subject and I'm sure the Internet has more (which I think our daughter explored). Green Weddings That Don't Cost the Earth by Carol Reed-Jones has some very helpful hints.

In light of the current failure rate in marriages, I personally think we need to put more emphasis on what we are celebrating and less emphasis on how we celebrate. Is a large commercially sponsored wedding and reception more likely to produce a successful marriage than a thoughtful, well-planned, and meaningful ceremony followed by a nice but simple party? I hope not!
