The good people of Fullerton, California would like to make their neighborhoods more wholesome. With the support of the Police Department and as a part of Operation Clean Up council members have proposed changing the name of the 2300 Bock of West Baker Avenue to thwart the Baker Street Gang.

At their April 7th meeting, councilors had some difficulty deciding upon just the right name. At their April 21st meeting, there was again dispute over what name should be chosen (Buttercup, Pansy Circle, Iris Court), whether it will give the neighborhood the new image it deserves, and what long term ramifications such a name change might have (i.e. will "the next step be to change the name of the city to get away from use of the name by the Fullerton Toker Town gang which has existed for many years").

On a vote of four to one, council voted to change the name of the 2300 Block of West Baker Avenue to Iris Court. For other communities who might be considering such a strategy, the full text of the April 21st City Council discussion is instructive (Audrey K. Culver, City Clerk, Minutes, Regular Meeting of the City Council, City of Fullerton, April 21, 1998).
