The Charlottesville Republicans have proudly announced the candidacy for
City Council of Anson Parker, a web developer for UVa. A little grazing
around the internet, interestingly, led us back to this website, where Parker
has appeared at least twice. In August of 2002 he
jumped into the then-intense
discussion of a proposed "graffiti wall" or (the actually built) Free
Speech Monument. He was enthusiastically in favor of the notion.
A couple of years later, we find him engaging in some
defiant street theater. Parker, who is white,
worked the crowd at a Jefferson Thanksgiving event in Court Square to
auction a slave, portrayed by Scottie Williams, known around town as
'Scottie B.' There was a reaction, led by Rev. Mark Beliles, and
Parker answered
it forcefully. Dave Sagarin ( June 3, 2015)
