Governor Terry McAuliffe, Attorney General Mark Herring and former Senator John Warner joined Senator Mark Warner in the Commonwealth Room of Newcomb Hall at UVa last Saturday.
Back in 1996, Mark Warner ran unsuccessfully for the United States Senate against then-Republican-incumbent John Warner, losing 52 to 47%. After a successful term as Governor of Virginia [defeating Republican Mark Early with a 52% lead in 2001], Mark Warner ran for the United States Senate once again, defeating Republican Jim Gilmore in 2008 with a 65% lead. Mark Warner's entry into the race followed Republican incumbent John Warner's announcement that he would not seek reelection.
As a Democratic incumbent, Mark Warner is again running for Senate, this time against Republican Ed Gillespie. On Saturday, Mark was back in Charlottesville with the support of former Republican Senator John Warner, who graciously and humorously stole the show. Truth be told, Mark Warner was remarkably eloquent as well.
