From the office of Rep. Perriello

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tom Perriello has been selected to fill two important congressional positions for pursuing economic growth for the 5th District of Virginia and the United States. He was appointed to the House Democratic Caucus' Congressional Task Force on Job Creation and was also made Vice-Chair of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Subcommittee.

“I am focused on jobs for Main Street and these appointments will help me advance the ball on economic development for Central and Southern Virginia. This is an urgent moment for rebuilding America’s competitive edge and giving people a shot at the jobs they deserve,” said Perriello.

Organized as a special working group focusing on upcoming jobs legislation, the House Democratic Caucus’ Congressional Task Force on Job Creation will be creating economic initiatives in the coming year to promote job creation. The task force will focus on bringing new and innovative ideas to the table that will create jobs and restore America’s competitive advantage. Rep. Perriello, with input from Virginia leaders in business and workforce development, will contribute his strategies for strengthening the economy and putting Virginians back to work.

The Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee examines bills that particularly affect economic incentives and growth in the transportation and infrastructure policy areas. It also handles legislation dealing with government programs like FEMA that handle disaster relief as well as measures regarding government buildings like the Smithsonian or post offices. As Vice-Chair, Rep. Perriello will have increased oversight and responsibility over the work and legislation considered by the subcommittee. (Electronic mail, December 2, 2009)
