Here's a bit of genuine irony.

The right wing (principally Karl Rove) scoffed at the idea that Barack Obama even considered Governor Tim Kaine for the vice presidency -- they said Kaine was the mayor of a relatively small American city, Richmond, Virginia, and has been governor of Virginia for less than three years. They continued that, outside Virginia, where he is admittedly popular, he is virtually unknown elsewhere.
