George, The memory I have of Bob Barr when he was a Congressman from Georgia, is his crusade to name federal properties in every state for Ronald Reagan. Most notable are two projects in Arlington and Washington, DC. The renaming of Washington National Airport to include Reagan's name cost the DC Metro system over $100,000 because he insisted that every sign in the system which named the airport be changed. When Metro BOD protested, he threatened to cut off their federal funding. In naming a new federal building on Pennsylvania Ave., he demanded that it be named for Reagan. It is a huge, expensive monument to a president who cut benefits for Social Security recipients, fired all the Air Controllers in the Airport System and reduced taxes, cutting funding to localities which caused state and local taxes to be raised to take up the loss. I understand he is now against government funds on what he considers
unnecessary spending. He bears watching and listening for how he plans to
conduct government business.
