George, Many of my friends condemn the Ewert campaign’s effort to shift delegates as a moral issue. I am going to the convention tomorrow as a Weed delegate. I chose to support Al because I believe that he will be a stronger candidate against the incumbent than would Bern. This is a judgment based on a lot of listening--to the candidates and their campaigns, and to friends and associates throughout the Fifth District. If, subsequent to my commitment at our caucus a month ago, I had come to believe that in fact Bern Ewert would do better than Al Weed in the general election, I would have switched my vote. But nothing has transpired to cause me to change my position. It isn’t a moral issue, it is a practical one. Dave Sagarin (electronic mail, May 19, 2006)
