We had "Satan" greet the attendees of a meat marketing seminar in Charlottesville last Wednesday because we want people to know that the meat industry is a bloody, violent, and evil industry. More than 30 million cows are killed in this country every year simply for a palate preference. With cattle ranchers placing profit over principal life for cows is truly hell on earth. Cows are castrated and have their horns ripped out of their skulls without any painkillers and many ranchers inflict third degree burns on them called branding. If farmers did to dogs and cats what they do to cows, they could be prosecuted for animal abuse and locked up. The good news is that anyone can become an angel for animals by simply adopting a healthy and humane vegetarian diet.

In Charlottesville we spoke with many people who were shocked and outraged at the unnecessary suffering of these animals. Most people were also surprised to learn that cows are actually quite intelligent and experience the same range of emotions that we do, including fear and anxiety in the slaughterhouse.
