George, Follow me here. Time after time, we are witnessing the malignant hypocrisy of the Republican right wing and their "trick democrat" fellow travelers! For example, President Clinton was hounded by a pack of "moral enforcer" members of congress for his "immorality". The likes of Congressional members, Dan Burton, Indiana Republican, Henry Hyde, Illinois Republican, Bob Barr, Georgia Republican, Newt Gingrich, Georgia Republican, Helen "Family Values" Chenoweth, Idaho Republican, Bob Livingston, Louisiana Republican and former Speaker of the House of Representatives. What did all these hounders have in common? They were united in their almost daily attacks on Bill Clinton's "moral turpitude"and each of them had extra marital affairs; Burton fathering an illigitimate child, Gingrich with two women, betraying two wives, Bob Barr's wife knowing he was cheating and refusing to bear another of his children, and having an abortion (pro-life Barr only drove her to the clinic and paid for the procedure, but he was opposed to it). Chenoweth's excuse was "he was married, not I." Former Congressman Bob Bauman Republican of Maryland, leader of the American Conservative Union and virulent homophobe resigned after getting caught soliciting sex from a minor male. Republican Senators Packwood and Tower resigned after several women complained of their constant sexual badgering and harassment. A leading representative of the Virginia Republican legislative majority resigns for his "indiscretions", , , , read, sexual harassment. Is there a message here? So now, we have the "protectors of family values" in the Virginia legislature, overwhelmingly supported by the Republicans, making it clear that Virginia is no place for the personal freedom to be committed to a partner of the same sex. One of the self righteous senators expressed it thus: "America will only be as strong as its families, " said Sen. Nick Rerras (R-Norfolk). "We must do all we can to uphold the sanctity and dignity of marriage, which is the foundation of our society, our community and our nation. " With the red states having a higher proportion of divorce, spousal abuse
and homicide, it's nice to know the Republicans are on the job protecting
family values once more.
