Dear
George,
Throughout this Christmas Season, Virginians have been waiting to learn
the final result of the race for Attorney General. Creigh Deeds is within
323 votes of McDonnells lead, and a mandated recount begins today.
Let us hope that among the joys of the Season will be the news that Creigh
Deeds is our next Attorney General. And if this happens, we will have two
Democrats at the helm of State Government in Richmond, and Creigh will be
well- positioned to run for Governor in 2008. This outcome will also bring
the necessity to fill Creighs seat with a Democrat who will bring
the same energy and high standards of public service to the Senate. However,
it would leave only a matter of weeks in which to nominate and elect a Democratic
candidate.
[In her email, Mrs. Richards includes this more general plea]
Together We Can Keep the 25th District Democratic
The 25th District is not reliably Democratic; in fact, most of the Western
part of the district is decidedly Republican. It is in the Eastern part
of the district - Charlottesville and Albemarle County - that we look for
a Democrat able to capture this seat. We can keep this seat in Democratic
hands if we work together and get behind a candidate with the name recognition,
the experience and the fundraising capacity to win.
Creighs energy and leadership in the Senate would be greatly missed,
but our best wish at this time is that he will fulfill his dream of joining
the administration of Governor- elect Tim Kaine as Attorney General.
I ask for your support and your help in planning a brief but hard-hitting
campaign for the 25th Senate District if the recount goes Creighs
way.
Thank you, and may all the Joys of the Season be yours. |
