George, The Republican-dominated Congress, urged on by CEO Bush, 'labored mightily and brought forth a mouse,' vis a vis this less-than-useless "energy bill," sure, they tossed a few bones to the public, extending daylight savings time by three weeks and a few puny incentives to buy hybrid cars and energy-efficient appliances, the bulk of the gifts of this 13+ BILLION dollar ripoff go to "promote energy production" with huge tax breaks to push exploration and build more nuclear power plants--this to the energy companies already making obscene profits as the price of oil hits record highs daily. Bush refused to hear anything about making vehicles, like SUVs, currently excluded from minimal miles per gallon requirements, so "mobile freezers" like the Hummer can gobble up fuel that Americans are dying to protect in Iraq at an enormous cost, both in human and treasury resources. Bush is out huckstering this joke as if it will serve the best interests of the nation; while in actuality, serving the best interests of his corporate allies. Where are the Democrats? Do they have their collective heads in the sand? This bill is so over the top in hypocrisy and flim flam, the Dems should be in the streets with torches! How does Bush, symbolically, manage to cut one end off the blanket and sew it on the other end and continue to convince the gullible they REALLY ARE getting a longer blanket? It boggles the mind. Yesterday, Ohio memorialized two dozen young marines killed last week in Iraq, our "fearless leader," who made a special effort to mourn four scout leaders and spoke at their Jamboree, made no effort to mourn a horrific tragedy to the families and the nation in Ohio.He was too busy hawking his latest boondoggle..the energy legislation. He has his "priorities". Harry Tenney (electronic mail, August 9, 2005)
