Before the election, the Charlottesville voter registrar received calls from people saying they felt intimidated using the new voting machines because of lack of privacy.

According to Sheri Iachetta, concerns about privacy and glare have been raised in the past. So the Board thought they might try curtains at each of the precincts to see how they work. She adds that people who stay behind the curtain a long time may be just trying to decide how to vote or how the machines work (May 4, 2004).

Or, of course, they may be making a write in vote.
