Dear Mr. Loper: After seeing your WEB PAGE, and various comments by your readers regarding SHOWTIMES American candidate, I thought you might be interested in telling your readers just how fake SHOWTIME was in the selection process of those American Candidates. Anyone who thinks SHOWTIME is trying to make a difference in the political system in this country should take a look at some of the following articles! http://www.realitytvcalendar.com/daily/june/daily-6-10-04.html http://www.sfweekly.com/issues/2004-06-02/smith.html Alas, although I won the popular vote, dominated the electronic debate and had the largest supporter turn outs in the country at the rallies (meet-ups) I was not chosen as one of the twelve finalists. Go figure! I guess you have to play to the viewing audience since; after all, this is television. Do the pop-culture audiences want serious issues or a "Jerry Springer Show" election? Stay tuned and we will find out. One last "dirty political trick" is being perpetrated by our friends at Showtime that I would like to call to your attention. The PETA candidate Friedrich has pulled into second place, maybe first by now in the voting. Maybe he just got a ground swell of support? Now, for the last month or six weeks of the election, voters have reported to me that when they click on my support me link, at http://www.americancandidate.com/candidate_homepage.php?id=173 it changes to supported but, the vote count does not change. So in other words, for the last month of the voting, I did not receive any credit for votes received; however, every other candidates total changed and their total increased when their support links were clicked. Curious! Not in the vein of sour grapes, but is this worse than Florida or what? I wonder how long it will take to get whatever new vote leader you want using this compilation method. One of your readers Alex Theodoridis commented that ("American Candidate" is being produced by R.J. Cutler, who gave us "The War Room", a documentary about Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign.) Maybe now Cutler is trying to demonstrate that he can duplicate the Old Chicago Voting Machine. If SHOWTIME is attempting to prove they can be as deceitful to the American Public as the real political process, they have succeeded!!! Very truly, Joe Caulfield (electronic mail, June 21, 2004)
