![]() ![]() Opening of FARENHEIT 911at VINEGAR HILL THEATER: Friday, June 25, 2004, Vinegar Hill Theater, Market St., Charlottesville, Virginia Michael Moore's Award-winning new film will open at Vinegar Hill on Friday, June 25. The first showing (25th only) will be at 1:25 pm, followed by shows at 4:20, 7:00, and 9:35 pm. The film is 120 minutes long. CCPJ will be organizing actions outside the theater AT THE 7:00 pm show, such as petition signing, leafletting and voter registration. JOIN THE ACTION: SUPPORT THE OPENING OF THE FILM IN CHARLOTTESVILLE. HELP CCPJ WITH VOTER REGISTRATION, PETITIONS TO CITY COUNCIL TO PASS AN ORDINANCE TO STOP THE PATRIOT ACT, AND LEAFLETTING ABOUT PEACE AND JUSTICE ISSUES. Note: No advance tickets will be sold. "In our area, the movie can only be seen at the Vinegar Hill theater. Larger theater corporations chose to drop the documentary for its political motivations" (WVIR-TV, 7:30 a..m. telecast, June 27, 2004). Farenheit 9/11 became the highest grossing documentary of all time on its first weekend in release, earning $21.8 million. According to the New York Times, Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine had held the record for the highest earning documentary, taking in $21.6 million in its domestic run. Farenheit 9/11 was released on 868 screens (Sharon Waxman, The New York Times, June 28, 2004) The percentage theater average was $25,115, "actually a tad lower
than the $26,144 per screen for Moore's previous doumentary, 'Bowling for
Columbine,' but that film opened at just eight sites in October 2002, and
eventually reached on 248 locations" (Bridget Byrne, The Washington
Post, June 28, 2004).
