"This
week HJ112 was killed in the House Rules Committee. This resolution simply
urged legislators to go on a welfare diet for two weeks in October.
During this period we would be limited to the same food budget as an individual
on food stamps. Living on a welfare diet for two weeks is not
going to solve the problem of people living in poverty. But by walking in
their shoes we may find ourselves looking harder for ways to eliminate these
conditions. I am still working with several organizations to promote this
program without the sanction of the General Assembly..." (Mitch
Van Yahres, electronic mail, January 30, 2004)
