Mr. Day's remarks on the issues facing the Gen'l assembly seem to be on the mark.

I would like to add to one viewpoint expressed about the state public employee pension fund (VRS). Mr. Day states that investment losses caused a shortfall. He should also accredit the shortfall to the four reductions in employer contributions to the fund made by the Gilmore administration in an effort to make the budget look balanced during his last year. These reductions gave the state and localities some extra dollars, but were the beginning of the slippery slope of cutting the strength of the pension fund.

Since I am one of those who depends upon VRS for revenue, I knew we would pay the piper at some date, sooner than later. Sooner is here.
