George, Hunter McGuire III is a nice guy who had no political ambition of his own until Governor Warner and two former governors, and others, persuaded him it was his duty (because, they told him, he could win -- don't they always?) to run for the house of delegates from Louisa, Goochland and western Henrico. He holds (or has held) leadership roles in construction of private & public hospitals, a city parking deck, bridges, and many private homes -- all of which helps him understand the need for quality, safety, and economy not only in private enterprise but equally in public works (that he calls "the people's business"). His years as a volunteer captain of the Manakin-Sabot fire department have reinforced his reverence for public service and for safety, as has his achievements in earning his pilot's liscense and instrument rating. On a personal level, Hunter is prouder of his pilot's instrument rating and the well-maintained condition of his family's small airplane than of any other personal achievement, which is a measure of the carefulness that he applies to everything he does. He is a quiet and thoughtful man with a great sense of humor and has a lovely family which lives in the Sabot Hill Farm real estate development which he has led since his two uncles died suddenly several years ago. He is currently finishing out the development of this family farm in western Goochland as it has been carefully and lovingly converted from full-time agricutural operations to residential living. Hunter leads the farm as it continues a leading-edge wetlands restoration and remediation project on its James River bottomland. He is my first cousin's son, and since many of my Democrat cousins supported me when I ran for the General Assembly as a Republican years ago, this seems a particularly good time for me to remember long-standing family loyalties!
