George: What really frightens me about the Cowboy-in-Chief is the rigid cognitive style with which he approaches any subtlety or nuance in stark black and white terms. The fanaticism of his fundamentalist Christianity differs little in process and function from the fanaticism of those he labels evil. As fanaticism is emotionally driven it is impervious to facts or rational discourse.Since he was "saved" from alcoholism by his religious conversion, it likely reinforced the dichotomous world view (good vs. evil, saved vs. unsaved, etc.) that makes him so dangerous in dealing with a complex world. Add to this his belief that his war to rid the world of "evil doers" is divinely inspired and we are in real trouble. Jeff Fracher (electronic mail, March 12, 2003)
