George,

It would come as no surprise to learn that the University of Virginia is the area's largest water user, yet there have been no water restrictions issued for UVa, so far as I know.

Perhaps all non-essential water to UVa should be turned off entirely this week. Today even. The date for turning it back on could be established during a future meeting relating to issues between UVa and area government. At that meeting they might also consider parking garage matters.

Editor's Note: According to Louise Dudley, Assistant Vice President of University Relations, U.Va. is subject to the City's water restrictions and is complying fully with them.

She says, "It might interest people to know that despite increased enrollment and expanded research, U.Va. has reduced its water consumption by 16% over the past five years, even before the new measures we're taking now."
