George,

Pigs fly and snowballs do exist in hell. I never thought I would agree with an editorial in the Observer but it has happened. I would never have believed that Democrats for Change and the Republican party would ever agree on anything but that has also happened. What is this issue that could make the impossible happen? The bus transfer station at the east end of the Mall. The consensus from both sides of the political spectrum is that this is a REALLY BAD idea. I will let lots of other make people make the detailed arguments about why this is a bad idea, a bad design, and why we probably don't even need a bus transfer station.

Why is Council rushing to push this project through when it has little support from such a diverse group? That Federal money is burning a hole in their pocket. We see it all the time at the University where departments are rushing to use up their State money before the end of the Fiscal year so they don't lose it. Implementing a poorly conceived project just to use up available Federal money is a big mistake.

Maybe they don't get enough sleep. I don't understand why people want to be on City Council. Last night I was flipping channels between the 11:00 news on channel 29 and the coverage of the City Council meeting on channel 10.

Thanks,

Downing Smith (electronic mail, June 4, 2002)
