Dear George, While I am convinced that campaign contributions have nothing to do with the way an elected official votes (as Tom DeLay recently asserted) I will be the first to admit that a *free lunch and a piece of pie grabs my attention. Since Susan Payne, a Nelson resident, can endorse Joan Fenton, I figure I can weigh in for Waldo Jacquith. Waldo brings to his campaign a necessary sense of humor, a welcome lack of cynicism, and a broad background in the community. The Council can only be helped by someone who doesn't really know yet that "it can't be done." A vibrant city involves its youth and harnesses their enthusiam. Waldo stands head and shoulders above the other candidates. Some of this is a bit tongue in cheek, but I do believe that Waldo Jacquith has the maturity, wit, concern and sensitivity to help keep Charlottesville a place where we country folk want to spend our time and money. Al Weed (electronic mail, February 16, 2002) Editor's Note: *Within days after the Democratic nominating convention,
we will draw one of the names of Don't be shy. Endorse a candidate while they are hot! [Of course, roasts
will do as well.]
