George,

Full disclosure. My son, Waldo Jaquith is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for City Council. He's a strong candidate and I hope and believe that he'll win. I'm proud of him - what father wouldn't be?

That said, I've watched this race develop, attended all of the public forums (yeah, I know it's fora, but it's just awkward and I speak English, not Latin) and had an opportunity to observe and draw conclusions about the
character of all of the other candidates.

If I may be allowed to offer my two-cents worth, it's my judgment that Bern Ewert is a man of integrity. From what I've learned of his experience in Prince William County, he did, indeed, put the public interest above his own interest. His actions are worthy of admiration, not stone-throwing. A guy who stands up to developers and their big money is going to be controversial. So be it.

Now, may the best men/women win - go Waldo!

P.S. This is not an endorsement for Bern Ewert. I just didn't have the sense that Bern was being treated quite fairly and want to speak up for him, because I think he's a good man. There are other good candidates, too. But, make no mistake, Waldo's my man.
