George I think that the use of cigarettes for a punitive income tax has gone more than far enough. In New York City a pack is $3.00?! When I stopped smoking here 12 years ago, a pack was 79 cents. Of course, I recognize the evils and grossness of smoking and that our civilization would be much better off without it, but it has its pleasurees and value for some (it served me very well) and, unfortunately, many who smoke and will continue to smoke, even if it's $5.00/pack. Isn't there some other vices to which we can direct our righteousness
and also collect money? (Jim Barnes, via electronic mail, December 21,
2002)
