Charlottesville City Council Race 2002: International Union of Police Associations' Endorsement Policy

The International Union of Police Associations does not dictate to our locals who they choose to endorse. IUPA does not generally make any endorsements in local races. We are concerned with police officers working conditions, benefits, due process, safety and pay. When we make our endorsements, it is usually in context of those issues.

We will make endorsements in State races if we see a clear distinction between the candidate in the areas of our concern and we have membership in the state. Such was the case with Governor Warner.
