Dear George, I just read Kevin Cox's message. Though I agree that the current method of traffic calming is not only a failure but dangerous, I don't agree with his solution. I think the answer is very simple and inexpensive: stop signs. I don't know why, but people who speed will stop for stop signs. It has worked great in the greenbrier neighborhood. I live on Locust and I will fight tooth and nail to keep those bumps off our street. It appears certain members of City Council are unwilling to admit they made a mistake. As the money has already been spent we should let the experiment run its course but let's not repeat the mistake elsewhere. This is one of the worse ideas I have seen since they were thinking about putting in a traffic circle in front of the old Lane High School. Downing Smith (electronic email, February 21, 2001)
