October 27, 2000 Dear Mr. Nader, I have always admired you; many of your ideas are those that have fueled incremental, albeit not yet revolutionary change in the U.S. But now it seems that everything you've done, everything liberals have done, whatever social progress American society has made in the last few decades is at risk in a ridiculous parody of a presidential election. How anyone ever took GW Bush seriously will forever be a mystery. But now the prospect of his presidency is real, even probable. As an old New-Deal liberal, I am sick at heart -- please, be an American hero one more time, and ask your supporters to join Al Gore's sometimes stumbling, often wobbly campaign. You may find Gore unsatisfactory, even dislike him intensely, but he will not do the damage to our country and to the whole trembling world that would be wrought by Bush and his malevolent cronies. You know what they are--greedy, racist, selfish, bound to hurt those who are already suffering the most. Don't let Bush win. Yours respectfully, Virginia Germino (electronic mail, November 6, 2000).
