George,

I have plenty of concerns about Florida.

First,we have the "conflict of interest" with a co-chairwoman of the Bush campaign "certifying" the election; the candidate's brother signing the certification;, a republican operative in Seminole County allowing the Bush campaign workers ten days free access to discarded absentee ballot applications... Why? Out of a concern for public service?

Thousands of these applications were mailed to obvious republican voters apparently, excluding Democratic voters. The counties with the greatest number of under-votes and over-votes are the poorer jurisdictions with antique and out moded machines... The error rate in these counties was upwards of 400% higher than in counties with more modern equipment... These poorer counties have a much higher number of minority voters who, from all reasonable indications, voted overwhelmingly for VP Gore. There is evidence of voter harrassment in some predominant minority voter precincts... Relying more on defective punch cards that may be only semi-perforated or were warped or bent while being inserted in old machines is what I feel the is the greatest travesty. Paper becomes more important than people!

Finally, I have seen so many dirty tricks and deceptions from the Grand Olde Party that nothing would surprise me. Though not much of a "conspiracy theory'" advocate, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if "Poppy" Bush with his CIA background didn't help "George the Younger" by helping put the "fix" in!.. There is much that stinks! The sheer arrogance and the sense of "entitlement" that I sense coming from the Bush Gang indicate to me that they truly believe the lid will stay on the rotting mess!

Harry Tenney (electronic mail, November 29, 2000).
