Dear George, It sounds like our 'Viagra' party got a little Prozac mixed in. When you mix Viagra with Prozac, you get a drug called, Don't Get Your Hopes Up... I had really hoped to at least see Jon Bright get elected or even Kevin Cox. I think Jon would work well with the current councilors and bring great ideas and alternatives to the status quo to the table. Kevin sure knows his issues - right or wrong, he knows them better than anyone. His concern about traffic and pedestrian safety is a very serious and mostly ignored issue. In hindsight, when the Republicans do eventually get candidates elected, we would have to get more than one at a time. Otherwise any great Republican ideas would be immediately credited to the Democrats on City Council. My ideal City Council would be: David Toscano All in all, it really doesn't matter about party affiliation here in Charlottesville. We just need people that care about the community, are willing to listen before making judgment and be honest and open when it comes to very sensitive issues. A lot of problems we have locally (and in this country) result from an unwillingness to be honest in public. If we a a racial problem and it comes before a political organization - just tell it like is, don't try to cover your political career. When I ran for City Council in 1994, I was asked by a black woman at the Westhaven community forum is I were elected, would I appointed blacks to the school board or other boards. I responded that I would appoint people that were qualified for the job and not based on race, sex, creed or otherwise. You may remember that this was a time when quotas and affirmative action was a big issue. I stood for what I believe - not what will get me elected. If the people agreed with me, then I would get elected, if not then maybe another time. To my surprise, the lady that asked the question stood an applauded when she heard my answer "From the mouth of the young, the truth shall come". Will Lyster (electronic mail,
