George et al: I continue to be distressed that the council's action on the Meadowcreek
Parkway continues to ignore the comprehensive plan. The plan very explicitly
stated that a Meadowcreek parkway, of whatever configuration, should not
be approved or built before the construction of a western bypass. That timing
was intended to guard against creating a defacto bypass that would cut thru
the downtown. One could argue with the prediction, but not with the fact
of the position stated in the plan. That plan has, as far as I know, never
been amended through a public I was on the planning commission that produced the plan, and I still think the policy is correct. The real problem is that it has been ignored. I hope candidates will address the process as well as the substance. Gib Akin (electronic mail, February 12, 2000)
