This forwarded message concerns current efforts to plan a rally in Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 5, 2001. Although many of you have real jobs (unlike some of us), I strongly urge you to try and make plans to attend, and to encourage your friends and colleagues to do so as well. With so much of the media, punditry and Congress nodding mechanically to the mantra of "bipartisanship" (and repeating such physiologically inaccurate metaphors as "healing the scar tissue") it is vital that we demonstrate that others of us are more interested in loudly protesting a horrible injustice than collectively breathing a sigh of relief; that this matter is not "finally over," but rather only just beginning.

Tens of thousands of outraged citizens will be attending a march and protest rally at our nation's capital on Friday, January 5, the day that Congress counts the votes of electors.

We are going to show Bush and the Republicans that although they have succeeded in stealing this election, with the help of the political machinations of the U.S. Supreme Court, we will never accept a Bush presidency as legitimate.

We are not going to listen to talk of "healing" the divisions in this country, moving toward bipartisan cooperation, and standing behind the lawfully chosen next president.

NO WAY

We are tired of endless media polls that say the "majority" of Americans will accept Bush as president and are darned happy to have this wackiness over and done with. We are not going to sit here and let that Official Story go unchallenged. We are not going to sit here and let Democrats in Congress "work" with Bush, confirming conservative justices and voting for bills because they don't want to seem too "partisan" after the nasty election mess.

Write your letters, send your e-mails, order your telegrams, make your phone calls, and then --
