George, I asked Carter Myers if he thought the city would have to reimburse VDOT for not building the Meadowcreek Parkway. His response follows. He also wrote and said that I could release the e-mail. Kevin Cox (electronic mail, April 4, 2000). ------ Kevin, I will see if I can get you more information or a specific answer to your question. I have very little doubt that if the city were to drop the road from their plan, that they would have to reimburse VDOT for the cost incurred to date. In addition there would be no reason that Albemarle would not go forward with their part of the road. It could even end up being 4 lanes if the City dropped out. This would put the traffic into the city at a location that they certainly would not want. A political position to kill this project under the above circumstances seems very unwise. In addition I have no doubt that this road will be built to the standards desired by this community and will be a long term asset. I personally feel that we should be able to find a way to replace the parkland and incorporate a recreational pond into the project as a joint venture with the City. Good luck, Carter Meyers (electronic mail, March 30, 2000).
