When I started campaigning [as an Independent] in November I set a one hundred dollar limit on all contributions. I did this for two reasons. I want all my donors to have to face a low ceiling and thus ensure some kind of parity and I don't want to have to go through the hassle of reporting the names of all my donors. I do not object to Lee Danielson or CAAR making contributions or asking questions. They are citizens too and have the right to be concerned about the City Council elections. I think some of the questions posed by Danielson's PAC and CAAR were excellent and thought provoking. I have told both groups that I would not take more than $100.00 from them. If they do offer it, which I think is unlikely, I will take it. However, regardless of contributions, I will never support Danielson's proposal for a sports arena downtown. Special interests can't buy influence for any price unless there is a willing vendor. Kevin Cox (electronic mail, April 14, 2000).
