George: I want to second Lloyd Snook's assertion that as a family and as a party, we Democrats should support our party's candidates for office, despite any disagreements we might have on any one issue (and I say that as an anti-Parkway Democrat for Change). But for me, support for Meredith Richards, Maurice Cox and Kevin Lynch goes well beyond mere familial or partisan loyalty. I also happen to think that they are the 3 best candidates in the race, and have no hesitation saying so. Their experience and leadership in city affairs far outshines that of their opponents. Their strong support for issues like the Living Wage, mass transit, teacher pay, workforce development, equal justice for gays & lesbians, etc., make them the best allies that local residents have got in the race. They are also supremely well-tuned to neighborhood concerns (they've each been to dozens, if not hundreds, of neighborhood meetings over the years). In sum, their depth and their commitment make them the 3 candidates most deserving of election to Council. The fact that they're also good Democrats is just icing on the cake. Sincerely, Dave Norris (electronic mail, April 17, 2000).
