"Hi George, Here is the radio ad. The Republicans can't have it both ways--if they cut BPOL and cut the tax rate to county levels, they lose $13 million. If they don't want to cut schools, then they have to cut police, fire, public works, sanitation, and social programs." Tom Vandever (electronic mail, April 27, 2000) "'The Republican candidates for City Council want to reduce the property tax rate and eliminate the business license tax. They want to cut almost $13 million dollars. This disturbs me-I'm shocked at their lack of regard for our children's education…because their proposal could cut school funding in half. Do they know what that means? Do they know about our award-winning reading programs, our pre-school, college prep, and arts programs? …about our low class sizes, outstanding teachers, and exceptional learning environment? Do they know that this year, record numbers of county students paid tuition to attend city schools because of our superior programs? Do they care? On May 2nd, my choice is clear-I want leaders committed to our public schools: Democrats Kevin Lynch, Maurice Cox, and Meredith Richards. They'll protect, enhance, and nurture our schools. We can't afford anything less.'"
