Tom Michie, center, with Rhoda Dreyfus and Chuck Robb, from Robb's 1994 U.S. Senate re-election campaign. Mr. Michie was the son of a founder of the Michie Hamlett law firm, which he joined in 1959. He was chairman of the Charlottesville School Board during the era ending segregation. Tom was a member of the Virginia General Assembly for 20 years, serving first in the House of Delegates and later as a state senator. In his first election, he was victorious by a single vote. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Doug Wilder to become the State's first African-American governor in 1990. (August, 2019)
