Tuesday, June 9: Democratic nominees for the three City Council seats on the November general election ballot will be selected by primary. (The incumbent Democratic officeholders in the 57th House of Delegates district and the 25th State Senate district have also selected a primary and will (if necessary) be on the June 9 ballot.) There are 5 candidates running for 3 Charlottesville City Council seats. They are Wes Bellamy, Kathy Galvin, Lena Seville, Mike Signer, and Dede Smith.

Sunday, June 14: 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. the University of Virginia Center for Politics will host a kickoff event for Juneteenth, an annual commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. The event will include a luncheon reception followed by an informal discussion on the history and significance of Juneteenth. At the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, 233 4th St. NW in Charlottesville. Attendance is free and open to the public with advance registration.
