George,

As has been my general investment strategy, I rely more heavily on historical facts than myths. Among the greatest of these "myths" is the long-held belief that the Republican party is good for the economy and, especially for the benefit of the general investing public.

NOTHING could be further from the truth, and, if historical facts as opposed to long-embraced myths are realistically and soberly applied (absent propaganda and general blather), those who paid close attention to history knew when to move from the market to a safe haven of cash or, as a second choice, short term treasury notes.

Several years ago a well known and highly regarded Wall Street "guru" came to Charlottesville at the invitation of a local brokerage firm. He started his address by saying, "I know I am with an audience of predominantly conservative folks who more often than not vote Republican, so I am going to disappoint many of you by presenting some information that starts around 1925 up to the present. I also know many of you will gasp in disbelief because I am going to counter what I know are many of your biases and long held absolutes! He went on to say, "Simply stated, with very few exceptions, the GOP has a lousy track record for investors!"

He started with the Harding administration, to Coolidge, Hoover up to FDR, H.Truman, Ike, JFK, Nixon, Gerald Ford, J. Carter, R.Reagan, G.H.W. Bush, W.Clinton and G. W. Bush ... he had charts and facts to back his words and the overwhelming audience reaction was stone silence.

He gave statistics of what gains you might have had, given the opportunity to sell prior to Republican administrations and to buy back before the succeeding Democratic administration took office.

So, I am watching closely the predictions and will "push the button" if some of the polls are proven correct. Even on that night when the dire news hit the ears of the faithful ... many just shook their heads and walked out unconvinced with their DNA held beliefs in mythology still intact.

Though mythology is interesting and fun,I prefer proven historical facts to the former. As Casey Stengel often remarked, "You can look it up!"
