Dear George,

It's a curious piece.

The mailer you received seemed intended for someone other that yourself. It was in search of the the uncertain voter in Virginia. Somewhere in the state there are voters not sure whether they will pull left or right on Tuesday. In someone's imagination, these uncertain voters are reflecting on their Tuesday decision and gathering information about where different candidates stand on female reproductive health issue.

The people who make a real difference in this election and in elections to come: the ones who haven't been voting.

This piece is not intended to change someone's mind - it's to get them to vote in the first place.

The reason people do things more than any other is fear.

Belief in someone is not nearly as strong a voter motivater as fear of someone or something else. We run away faster when the boogie man (or woman) is chasing us. So goes electioneering in the 24-hr news cycle.

Peace, Joe Clancy New York, NY
